Watch Your Words! God’s Direction for Effective Communication

-Proverbs 22:12 KJV-
“The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.”

In the previous verse (22:11), King Solomon honors the use of gracious words, but here he brings to our attention to the fact that the Lord despises deceitful and dishonest things. Words can either build up the hearers of them or break them down. Words can either hurt or heal. The choice is ours to choose to obey God with our words or not.

-Proverbs 18:21 NLT-
“The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”

Are we truly talking for the benefit of others, instead of ourselves? Are our conversation sprinkled with the love and grace of God that He commands that we direct towards others? These are our precious brothers and sister we are talking to, especially to those in the faith. Have we forgotten that we are all the God’s beloved? How then can we implement this practically?

-Colossians 4:6 KJV-
Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

The main takeaway is to continue to pray for wisdom, watch ourselves and examine our own speech and always be grateful to the Lord and others for all things. Ask the Lord for opportunities to speak life into the lives of others and also speak the truth of God at all times, which is so desperately needed in this world. Even Jesus only spoke the words of the Father to others (John 12:49-50)! Shouldn’t we strive to always follow Jesus’s perfect example?

We’ve all been given an assignment to take care of the least of these, or those that are without, and one way we can care for others is by building them up in love and protecting the bond of unity in the Spirit.

I urge you brothers and sisters to look again at the way you speak to those around you and pray that you may always build up and not break down- for the Lord is clear in what He expects from us.

Let’s strive to always be pleasing to the Lord our God in all things!

Be Blessed!!! The glory belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ alone!
