I want to express the lens of a missionary in a foreign country experiencing a medical emergency. In America, we have “same day service”, the luxury of having a nice room, and even a specialist that knows how to treat us at our fingertips at any hour or any day of the week. But in Japan, the situation is not so.
I was in a “hospital room” that was a taped up, unclean, tent. Eventually, they told me that the certain doctor I needed wasn’t in that day, so I needed to come back the following day.
It’s a scary situation for anyone being hospitalized, but the dirty, tent-like (curtain hung with tape) and inability to receive same day treatment, even at the hospital, truly made me realize that I was in a foreign country. They didn’t have a comfortable room or a specialist doctor on call, and their reach was severely limited.
This made me realize how lucky and truly blessed we are in America for the functions of urgent care, being able to be hospitalized at any time of day, and always having the proper treatment available and even the luxury of each and every doctor being available and on hand at all times. To be met with such news was such a discouraging thing to encounter as a single missionary in Japan, but God was with me.
This was a scary situation I encountered on March 20th. I was hospitalized for an ongoing condition, that got pretty serious, but then eventually God healed. Please pray for my continued health, In Jesus’ name, I covet your prayers. Amen and God Bless you abundantly!
