Do you feel stuck right now? Do you feel like you’re not sure where to go from where you’re currently at? Do you feel like you’ve been waiting on specific answers from God? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you need these instructions from the Bible. Sometimes in our walk, we struggle with feelings of lack of purpose, unclear directions or have a desire to have more information from God about our path. Our seasons in life are always changing; permanence is fleeting and sometimes we find ourselves needing a “now” word or answer from the Lord for our current situation. Let’s look together at Paul’s example for what to do when we find ourselves in this type of challenging situation:
-Philippians 3:13-15 NIV-
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.”
There are 4 instructions that Paul gives us to follow as an example for what to do in our lives.
1. Forgetting the past (this includes what happened before, how things worked out “last time,” the disappointments, the pain, the struggles)
2. Straining means, “to devote serious and sustained effort” towards what is ahead (staying future minded, looking towards Heaven, expecting that the best is truly yet to come from God, preparing for your future, relying on God fully and working hard towards achieving your dreams and goals)
3. Pressing on (not giving up despite delays, setbacks, and disappointments; never giving up, always moving forward)
4. Take this view of such things (make a concerted effort to remain in this mindset, do not stray and regress back into backwards thinking or previous thought patterns)
Bonus Information: God’s promise of correction should we be going in the wrong direction is displayed in verse 15. God does not leave us alone and is our present help in times of trouble. He states that He CAN and WILL make known the correct path to us. I pray that we can all rest in that truth today and follow these steps when we are at a loss in our lives.
-Psalm 46:1 KJV-
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Paul humbly expresses in verse 13 that he does not have all the answers. Paul definitely has not “arrived.” He doesn’t claim to have all the answers and also does not claim to feel that he completely understands everything about his situation. And yet, despite not having all the answers, he looks to the One who does and encourages us to do the same.
-Galatians 6:9 NIV-
“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Be encouraged dear ones ❤
