If you’ve been a Christian for any amount of time, it is a sure bet that you have heard the phrase, “Let go and Let God.” This phase is coined quite frequently and that is because the sentiment behind it is a powerful and transformative one. Let me explain: The essence of this saying is that by letting go of the control you think you have over your life and through putting your faith, trust, and life outcomes into God’s very capable hands, you will unequivocally experience fullness of joy, peace and ultimately be empowered to walk out God’s perfectly laid out plan for your life. This for a Christian, is the safest place for us to be spiritually: relaxing from our own works in order to step into the fullness that God has destined for us. The root and resounding message of the saying, “Let go and Let God” really just comes down to one essential thing: surrender.
So why is surrender so difficult? In my humble opinion, it is one of the hardest things that we have to contend with here on earth.
Although God has gifted us with the free will to make our own decisions, He also gave us a better way: His way.
The human condition is that we innately don’t want to let go because it goes against our nature. We naturally associate the act of “letting go”with loss. Who wants to lose anything? Of course, no one would want to, especially our most favorite things, the things that make us happy and the things that we cherish the most. And yet, God says that through letting go, that is where true freedom is found.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
What if letting go of our lives was actually the opposite of earthly loss? What if it was actually, gain? Well my friends, that is clearly what the Bible is saying to us!

“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it, and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it.”
Letting go feels like loss in the natural, but in actuality, God never leaves us empty handed. I’d like to help you see that is not a matter of God “taking” from us and us “losing something” to God. Rather friends, it is an exchange (and highly in our favor too). When we lay down what we have at his feet (our plans, our dreams, our possessions, our fears, our money, our worries, our lives), He gives us exponentially MORE in return!!! It’s a spiritual exchange with God where we are not losing at all friends, we actually put ourselves in the perfect position to gain; something different, something better and something Godly.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
What do we gain you might ask? Well first and foremost, a deeper and closer relationship with God, our Heavenly Father!!! After that, comes unimaginable love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, self-control, kindness and faithfulness at full capacity through the Spirit. Then, add on eternal life and also life here on Earth more abundantly (just to name a few, John 10:10)!!! I don’t know about you but that’s the kind of life I want!!!
