Renewed Mind in Christ; Newness of Spirit

“And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Ephesians 4:23 & 24 KJV

Happy 2024 and New Year to all! I want to take a look at this verse in Ephesians today which calls us to higher places in Christ. Paul calls us to be renewed in the spirit of our minds. So what is the spirit of our minds? Paul is referring to our inner disposition, attitude and temperament of our minds. He suggests an inward transformation of our mind’s unique character and thought patterns, emphasizing spiritual transformation over one’s thinking. This renewal is many times associated with a change in one’s perspective, leading to a consequently more Godly focused and aligned mindset.
Do you ever consider the disposition of your mind? Do you ever check your own thoughts? When the inner man is focused on the Spirit of God, His thoughts become God’s thoughts. Since our actions always follow our thoughts, our behavior is directly affected as well when we become more focused on Jesus. Then, the ripple effect occurs and we consequently become more and more like Jesus greater than we ever had before, starting from the inside and out. This is the process of refinement and sanctification in the spirit of the inner man. This inward transformation is all we need to live a more blessed life and to have deeper intimacy with God!

With 2023 gone and 2024 here, we say good bye to last year’s mindsets and step forward into the new. Without hesitation, walking in newness of spirit, let’s make a point to put God first in our lives and walk in submission to Him like never before!

You may have felt down in 2023; you may not have had things always work out in the way that you had planned; but rest assured that walking in a newness of the Holy Spirit is your portion! Let’s ask God to help us with this in prayer:

“Heavenly Father, thank you for the person on the other side of this screen. I pray that you would move mightily in their thoughts, feelings and emotions and bring them all into the subjection of Christ. I pray this year more than even, they look more like you, act more like you and feel and operate out of the wonderful fruits of your Spirit, this year, like never before. God bless them as they serve you, help them to do things that they could never do in their own strength and bring every single one of their worried thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ. Shower them with your peace in love. Meet all of their spoken and unspoken needs Lord, for you know them. We put on your full armor today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
