Hyakyuma-San’s Story

Three years ago, during my first mission trip to Japan, I met this day laborer in the streets of Nishinari. This man wheels a very large cart around everyday- which from the outside appears to be filled with trash, but in reality, it is actually filled with all of his life’s belongings and possessions. I have encountered this man multiple times while doing street evangelism, as he lives on the streets and frequents the same areas often. After not being in Japan for almost 3 years, due to the Corona pandemic, I often prayed for this man and wondered how he was doing: about his health, his safety and if he was eating enough.
Three years ago when I first met this man (please see the picture on the left), I witnessed to him by sharing the gospel message, provided him with food and water, and prayed with him.
The other day while doing street evangelism, I was overjoyed to see this same man again (please see the picture on the right)! Although his physical situation has not changed (as he still remains homeless and impoverished) he was again willing to hear the gospel message and receive prayer! We provided him with two bags filled with bread, rice balls, water, coffee, and origami gospel tracts. I felt led to give him an extra bag or two, as he stated he had not eaten at all yet for that whole day and I remember that he stated that he often deals with food scarcity. He gladly accepted the food, the prayer and appeared happy and blessed by the end of our encounter. We also asked him if he would like to come to a bible study in the area if we started one and he said, “yes!” (As long as it was early in the morning lol).
Although this man, Hyakyuma-San, has not yet accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior, he is open to the things of God, willing to come to church and I believe that God is stirring his heart. I believe that the Lord has His hand on this man’s life and very soon Hyakyuma-San will fully believe in the good news!
The Lord really blessed me by allowing me to minister to him yet again after a long time, as I had always been thinking of him and his situation. Myself and my team look forward to further building a relationship with Hyakyuma-San, continuing to help him hear the gospel, getting him connected to our bible study community, supporting him in any way we can and prayerfully and ultimately, lead him to the Lord.
Please pray with me for Hyakyuma-San! I pray that God will break through all barriers for Hyakyuma-San and am believing for his physical health, spiritual health and salvation!
Thank you for reading and God bless!
