Hello beautiful people! Today’s topic is one that may come as a surprise to you if you’ve been a Christian for a long time… and it may even surprise you even if you don’t believe in God too. The scripture today will focus on Jesus and how He did not judge anyone while He was on Earth nor does He judge anyone even now. I think it’s a common misconception about Jesus that He was a judgmental person, correcting people everywhere He went, but honestly that couldn’t be farther from the truth. If we read the Bible we can begin to understand the heart of Jesus and how He is the epitome of love in the flesh. If you think you already know who Jesus really is, I encourage you to keep reading because you may be surprised at what you find…
(Jesus speaking in John 12:45-48)
“I (Jesus) am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” – John 12:45-48
Woah, woah woahh. Ok, so here is Jesus speaking to a large group of people, his disciples and the religious leaders (Pharisees) of that time in a public setting. Jesus first proclaims that He is a light and anyone who believes in Him should not abide in darkness. Since Jesus is a light (holy and pure) and also 100% God, there is no darkness in Him at all. Therefore, if we should abide in Christ and His Holy Spirit should dwell in us, then we cannot walk in the darkness (sin) because light and darkness cannot exist in the same place, at the same time. Therefore, we must rely on God to be holy as He is holy. Once we become saved, we do this by stopping the sin processes in our lives so that Jesus’ Holy Spirit can dwell within us (1 Peter 1:16).
The main point I want to make today is that JESUS NEVER JUDGED ANYONE NOR DOES HE JUDGE ANYONE. He specifically says in verse 47 that even if people do not believe in Him, Jesus still does not judge them. Wow! What a lesson we as Christians need to take from Jesus! We shouldn’t judge others based on whether they are saved or not. We also shouldn’t judge others depending on where they are in their walk either. Since Jesus never judged, nor does judge, WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE ANYONE EITHER! Jesus knows that the love of God brings people to repentance, not condemnation (Romans 2:4).
Although willful sin in someone’s life can trouble us a Christians (since we know that sin leads to death), it is not a reason to act or react negatively towards them. Don’t you think that Jesus knows this truth better than anyone?! Jesus knew everything about every single person that He ever spoke to and yet, He always responded in love towards them; healing them, feeding them and taking care of all their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
In John 12:48, Jesus says although He does not judge- there is one who does. Here He is referring to God the Father. What does He judge us of? It’s contained in the same verse. Whether we reject or accept Jesus and also whether we receive or don’t receive His words.
As a Christian, we must follow Jesus and His perfect example of a life lived on Earth, for that is pleasing to God and that is our mission.
Let’s not forget to radically love those around us just like Jesus did!
