Hey fam! I’m coming at you with another blog post today 😀 Let’s dive in!
Love…The most amazing aspect of God (in my opinion) is that the creator of me, you and the universe feels. He feels emotions, and the most prominent one is love. He is perfect in all that He does and His love is perfect too (Deuteronomy 32:4). God created love and in fact, He is love (1 John 4:8). He is the physical, emotional and spiritual manifestation of love.
Do you know what Love is according to God?
“Love is patient,
love is kind.
It does not envy,
it does not boast,
it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others,
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.”
– 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
Let’s do an exercise! Everyone ask yourself a few questions: Are you always acting in love? Are you showing love to others? Is your life a demonstration of love? Would you say that others know you by your love?
Let’s take it a step further; Are you patient and kind with people no matter how they treat you? Are you more concerned with the needs of others instead of your own needs? Do you hope and persevere no matter what is going on around you?
The Bible is clear on the importance of Love in the Christian life. Let’s see what Paul says in the book of 1 Corinthians..
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.” – 1 Corinthians 13: 1-3 NIV
Paul is saying that as a Christian, we can have spiritual gifts and we can do good works, but without love… it’s all worthless. Without love (abiding, living, and acting in God’s love) we are nothing and gain nothing. What a strong statement!
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” – 1 John 4:7
How then do we gain the ability to love outside of our own strength? To radically love those around us in the way that God is calling us to do? The apostle John reveals in this scripture that whoever loves, knows God!
Therein lies the answer. We must KNOW GOD! Whoever loves, knows God. To get to know someone, you must spend time with them! The more time you spend with someone, the more you discover about them.
I encourage you fam to spend time with your heavenly Father so that He can love on you and you in turn, can better understand Him and His heart.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” – John 13:35
God bless you!
