You have 3 names- Not one!

Happy Monday everyone! I’ve come to the conclusion that there are actually three names that we are given in life. I want to talk about what I think they are today.

The first name we have is the one our parents have given us. This is the obvious answer and the name by which people call you- your given name. Your earthly given name is special and is usually a foreshadowing for your life or overall personality. People usually tend to live out their name meanings very well, as depicted all throughout the bible (David=beloved, Esau=hairy).

The second name is the one that satan has for you. Although this is not explicitly stated in the bible, I believe that satan calls us all a name: this name is, “raca.” Raca is a Syriac word that means, “empty one, worthless, and vain.” Raca is a derogatory term first used by Jews and comes from the root meaning, “to spit.”

Why does satan give us a false name? That’s because satan is a liar, and his biggest tactic is to get you to deny the power of the Holy Spirit living inside you and the power that God has placed on your life now that you’re a believer. He’s trying to convince you that you’re empty– void of the Holy Spirit.

Satan will have completely disarmed you if he can get you to deny or disbelieve that one thing. Satan doesn’t want you to experience or even walk in the fruits of the spirit. If he can convince you that you don’t have them, then you are forced to walk in your own flesh and live unto death.

We encounter this word “raca” in Matthew 5:22,

“But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.”

Satan is angry with us because we are God’s loved and chosen people and is mad about that fact that we get to inherit all of God’s blessings as his children. We must resist believing that this is our name if we want to be able to fully be set free from ourselves and walk in all that God has for us.

So who does God say that I am?

The most important name and the third name, is the name that God has given you. All throughout the Bible, God renames people after they come to Him. God is continually giving people new names based on their new identity in Christ. If you are a believer, your identity is now in Christ! His righteousness is your righteousness. His fruits are your fruits.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law” – Galatians 5:22-23

This is the reality of our sonship. These are the the fruits that our lives are marked by. I encourage you to ask God what He thinks about you today. Ask Him, “God, what do you think about me? Who do you say that I am?” and then wait for a response. Listen to Holy Spirit. I can assure you God will have many things to say to you. He’s definitely a talker and He loves all of us so much more than we can imagine. He is so good.

Ask God what name He calls you 🙂 If you’d like to share what He said, please leave a comment on this post! God Bless you all ❤
