Hello! I hope everyone is feeling the love of God and the power of His insurmountable blessings today! I want to dive into something that has been on my heart lately.
Most of us are waiting on God for something. There are prayers that have not been answered, jobs that have not come to us, health that has not been restored and family members that have not received Jesus.
So knowing this, how can we continue to be encouraged and serve God though we are waiting on Him to remove the mountains in our lives? In our Christian walk, how do we not serve sin while waiting on the Lord? How do we not backslide when things are seemingly falling apart around us?
In order to tackle the answer to this question, we first need to understand why we have prayers that have not been answered, job opportunities that have not come, health that has not been restored and family members that have not yet been saved.
If you are diligently seeking the Lord through His Word and also in your prayer life.. if you are paying attention and looking intently for His response and still… nothing is happening in regards to your prayer request….. The event in question falls under, simply put, God’s timing.
Here are some scriptures about God’s timing:
“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance“ – 2 Peter 3: 8-9
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven“ – Ecclesiastes 3:1
From these scriptures we can see that God’s timing is much different from our own…and that there is a greater reason behind it. That reason is often far beyond us and can be classified as one of the great mysteries of God. However, we are able to know one thing for sure. As stated in Romans 8:28:
“that all things work together for good to them that love God…”
If then, we are trying to faithfully wait on the Lord to fulfill His promises in our lives, what can we do? How can we overcome the struggles that come while we wait on the Lord?
The first thing that we need to do is to be still. “Be still ” is a commandment from God in Psalm 46:10-11:
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.“
When we are able to be still and know that God is on the throne; know that God is in control of our situation; know that He is working everything together for our good; we are able to receive the peace of God and are then able to rest in that peace.
We need to be still in order to rest in the Lord. This is an act of obedience to Him and shows that we are fully trusting Him, His perfect plan and His perfect timing.
What next? I’m glad you asked 🙂
The next thing we need to do is to get ahold of God’s merciful kindness and have hope in it! What is God’s merciful kindness?
The Hebrew word is “hesed” (חֶסֶד) and according to Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible by James Strong, it means, “unfailing love, loyal love, devotion and kindness.”
We can have faith, hope and trust in God’s unending, merciful kindness towards us! Do you really understand how much God loves you?! The sheer depth of His love in unimaginable. That is why He sent His son to die for us while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8). Can we trust that God loves us? Moreover, can we put all of our hope into knowing it? Whether you do or not, that will be the definitive factor and indicator for how you are handling your current period of waiting.
“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us“ – Romans 5:7 (NIV)“
“For sin shall not have dominion [control] over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace” – Romans 6:14 (KJV)
Do we need to worry about our past, our future or even our current circumstances? The answer is no! We just need to press into God, more and more and wait in fervent hope for Him. We can accept His blessing of rest and continue to experience the love that comes from having a relationship with Him. He is enough to sustain us through trials (2 Corinthians 12:9)!
Someone we can relate to in the Bible, who also underwent various trials is Paul. Paul was able to understand the glory of God, His perfect timing and His perfect love for us.
“We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead” – 2 Corinthians 1: 8-9 (NIV)
Such wisdom in his words! Paul understood that the trials in his life were for his benefit and that he had to go through some things in order to achieve a deeper intimacy with God.
It is my prayer that whatever you are going through, that you will let the Love of God overwhelm you and that you can be still and know that God has everything under control as you wait for Him to move.
I pray that this blog post has touched your heart and encouraged you to stand fast in your Lord who loves you beyond our human comprehension!
God Bless!
