Hello everyone! I’m back after taking a little break from blogging and today, I want to encourage you to pray for yourself. (Gasps are heard from around the world). Yes, for yourself! I know of course we are to be always lifting up our brother and sisters in Christ and unsaved friends and family members and even the homeless man on the street (I Timothy 2:1). However, God’s tender mercies, wisdom, comfort and assistance are available for each and everyone of us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week- we just have to take the first step to access it, and that is done through prayer- a constant communication with the Father. There is nothing wrong with receiving help from the Lord for yourself! Let’s take a look at the scripture of the day.
Psalm 121 (KJV)
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”
This psalmist knew that the Lord is our only constant source of help and that He is always watching us, never sleeping-always willing and ready for us to reach out to Him. God is never too busy for His children- He longs for us to reach out to Him with our every need and concern.
John 15:7 (KJV)
“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.”
Now, I’m not saying that the kind of prayers for ourselves should be for things of monetary value or earthly possession (that sports car we’ve always wanted or to win the lottery.) On the contrary, we should be praying for our spiritual, emotional, and physical needs, so that we can be prepared aganist the devil and most importantly, so that we can be better equipped to serve the kingdom of God. (Ephesians 6:11) Even our day to day struggles are not too small for God to care about and fix! Strength, spiritual discernment, more faith- anything that you feel like you are lacking in, God will provide for you (2 Corinthians 2:10). Look at Solomon and how He prayed for wisdom- the Lord heard his prayer and provided- he blessed Solomon and gave him more than he even asked for.
1 Kings 3: 10-14 (NIV)
“The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this.
So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice,
I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.
Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.
And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.”
Solomon was a godly man who obeyed and feared God; so the Lord continually blessed him and gave him what he asked for.
James 1:5 (KJV)
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”
Again and again we see throughout the bible that God wants to bless us with help and provide for all of our needs.
Matthew 7:7 (KJV)
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be
opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?”
Remember friends you have not, because you ask not. Lift your eyes up to the Lord so that He may bless you, as it is His good pleasure to. God bless💓
